These exceptional George IV sterling silver chambersticks (chamber candlesticks) have a plain circular form.

The plain cylindrical capitals are encompassed with applied moulded decoration to the rim and retain the original hallmarked sterling silver sconces.

Each sconce and wax pan are encompassed with applied gadroon decorated borders to the rim and features a contemporary bright cut engraved Earl's coronet design to the surface.

These silver chambersticks retain the original detachable snuffers.

The snuffers have a conical form and are surmounted by simplified bud style finials.

The connecting peg of the snuffer is ornamented with an impressive chased leaf design to the upper portion.

Each antique silver chamberstick is fitted with a shaped handle featuring a plain thumbpiece and receiver socket for the snuffer.

The handle and snuffer bear the aforementioned coronet design above a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a demi-woman richly attired holding in the dexter hand a garland of laurel*.

These antique chamber candlesticks were crafted by the renowned London silversmith Robert Garrard II, subsequently R & S Garrard & Co and bears the retailer's mark 'Garrards, Panton Street, London' to the underside.

* Given the date of the hallmarking of this pair of chambersticks they were undoubtedly in the ownership of Anthony Adrian Keith-Falconer (born 20th April 1794 died 11th July 1844), the 7th Earl of Kintore. He was the eldest son of William Keith-Falconer, 6th Earl of Kintore and Maria Bannerman, the only daughter of Sir Alexander Bannerman of Elsick, the 6th Baronet and Mary Gordon.

These antique silver chamber candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The applied gadroon decoration is all very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is all crisp; the coronet to the handle and extinguishers has slight wear in keeping with age and location.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of these silver chambersticks and part hallmarks to the sleeve of the sconces and the surface of the snuffers are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique silverware.
