The upper portion of the glass body is fitted with a fine and impressive sterling silver mount with a lower supporting girdle.
The hallmarked hinged cover is surmounted with a plain thumbpiece.
This Victorian whiskey jug is fitted with a narwhal tusk* handle with sterling silver sockets.
The base of this unusual jug is ornamented with star cut decoration to the underside.
Jugs incorporating tusk are rare to the market, especially those in such exceptional condition.
* A narwhal is a medium sized toothed Arctic whale, the male of the species being characterised by its single 2-3 metre long tusk. The tusk is actually an incisor tooth which projects in a left-handed helix from the narwhal's upper jaw.
