The drinking vessel of each chalice has a plain incurved form embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved sunburst motif with the initials 'IHS'* to the centre..
Each ecclesiastical chalice retains the original gilt interior.
These exceptional Victorian chalices are crafted in the same style and period as the wine flagon A3046; they would sit very well together as a set.
* IHS comes from the first three letters of the Latinised version 'IHSOUS' of the Greek spelling ‘ΙΗΣΟΥΣ’, which translates as the Holy Name of Jesus. Many perceive these initials to delineate the Latin phrase 'Iesus Hominum Salvator' meaning 'Jesus the Savior of all Men', which is not historically accurate.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each chalice are all very clear in keeping with age; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of Victorian silverware.
