The anterior face of the blade is embellished with fine and impressive flat engraved Greek key fret band accented with a stylised leaf motif to the tip.
The ornamentation to the blade incorporates the contemporary bright cut engraved presentation inscription:
'Presented to Alrfr Scott Esqrr by the Members of the Local Board on the occasion of his Laying the Foundation Stone of their new offices, Morley, 8 Novr 1866'.
The lower portion of the trowel incorporates flat engraved scrolling designs emanating from a central, angular leaf motif.
The reverse of the blade is plain and ornamented with a simple palmette style design, in addition to a single paralleling border.
This antique silver trowel retains the original fine and impressive carved ivory handle ornamented with crossed and wrapped leaf decoration.
The original, cylindrical ferrule is encircled with further Greek key fret band ornamentation, to an exceptional shaped chased decorated scroll and stylised palmette leaf style bolster.
This impressive Victorian trowel is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch.
