The fundamental pieces and extensive serving pieces of this silver cutlery set have been crafted by the London silversmiths Mappin Brothers in 1896, apart from the table and dessert knives, which are replacements**; as expected with period flatware crafted in London, this canteen is a superior gauge of silver.

Each component of this set will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system some pieces bear the date letter 'U' and the others feature 'a' in a differing surround.

The blades of the asparagus tong and fish servers are embellished with impressive, delicate pierced scrolling leaf decoration.

The salt spoons retain the original gilded interior.

This antique flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduce tarnishing.

* "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.

** Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time.
