The pieces of this fine antique Victorian sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons have been crafted in the Dog Nose Rat Tail pattern.

The anterior surface of each fork and spoon handle is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest of a lion’s paw erected and erased holding a star.

Each spoon features an impressive rat tail ornamentation to the reverse of the bowl

The original sterling silver forks have three tines/prongs.

This flatware service consists of 74 pieces:

Basic Service:
12 Table knives
12 Table forks
12 Table spoons
12 Dessert knives
12 Dessert forks
12 Dessert spoons

Additional Pieces:
Pair of sauce ladles

The fundamental pieces of this Victorian service have been crafted by the renowned London silversmith Francis Higgins III in 1892, apart from one dessert fork which was crafted by the same maker in 1896 and two replacement dessert spoons, in addition to the table and dessert knives*.

The replacement dessert spoons were crafted by CJ Vander in 1977 and have been replicated using the exact dye to the originals and also bear the aforementioned crest.

This impressive antique flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduce tarnishing.

* Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time.

Condition

This antique service is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved crests are very crisp and show even wear in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine and impressive canteen.
