The pieces of this unusual antique Victorian sterling silver four piece tea and coffee service have a gourd, Grecian style form onto a collet foot.

The teapot, coffee pot, cream jug and sugar bowl are embellished with a band of bright cut engraved Greek key decoration.

The lower portion for each piece is ornamented with impressive engraved acanthus leaf decoration.

The teapot, coffee pot and cream jug feature two bright cut engraved crests depicting a battlement tower alongside a beaked stork with the dexter claw resting upon a circular medallion with a lion rampant.

The crest sits above the motto 'Esse Quam Videri' which is translated as 'To be, rather than to seem to be'.

The coffee pot and teapot are fitted with flat hallmarked hinged covers embellished with bright cut engraved husk decorated border.

Both covers are surmounted by an impressive sterling silver finial in the form of a butterfly.

The coffee pot, teapot and cream jug are fitted with a plain handle with an impressive scroll decorated upper terminal.

The unusual sugar bowl is supported by a pedestal style foot.

The teapot was made by Samuel Smily at Goldsmiths Alliance Ltd, London in 1870.

The coffee pot, sugar bowl and cream jug were made by William Gough at Gough & Silvester, Birmingham in 1866.
