This impressive service is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in fine condition.
The bright cut engraved decoration to each piece is very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece are all very clear.
Part hallmarks, as expected, struck to the interior of each cover and to the handles of the teapot, coffee pot and sugar basket are also very clear.
Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of these examples of Victorian teaware.
Item Description / Dealer Expertise
The pieces of this exceptional and impressive Victorian sterling silver four piece tea and coffee service has a six panelled urn shaped form onto a hexagonal panelled spreading pedestal foot.
Each piece is embellished with two bands of bright cut engraved decoration surmounted by a thread decorated border following the contours of the incurved shaped edge.
The body of each component is further ornamented with bright cut engraved foliate garlands incorporating two oval cartouches; each cartouche is embellished with a shield shaped tri-floral crest surmounted with a visored tri-floral helmet.
The tea pot and coffee pot are fitted with flush hinged hallmarked covers which retain the original urn style silver finials.
Both covers are embellished with a bright cut engraved stellate design at the foot of the finial.
The sugar basket is fitted with the original hallmarked swing handle. The remaining pieces all have elegant thread decorated C scroll handles with impressive leaf decorated sockets.
The sugar basket and cream jug have silver gilt interiors.

The service was made by the renowned English silversmith Frederick Elkington of Elkington & Co.
