Each component of this impressive service has an octagonal panelled form.
The body of each piece is embellished with exceptional bright cut engraved decoration depicting columns, intertwined trees, birds, squirrels and scrolling leaf motifs.
One side of the body of each piece is ornamented further with a bright cut engraved crest of a stag’s head erased.
The lower flared portion of each piece has bright cut engraved decoration in a Chinoiserie style, including Oriental figures.
Each item of this impressive example of Victorian teaware has an egg and tongue decorated border to the lower rim.
The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with hinged domed panelled covers surmounted with sterling silver compressed octagonal shaped baluster finials.
The covers are embellished with alternating bright cut engraved scrolling leaf designs to each panel.
Each piece of this impressive tea and coffee service is fitted with an opposing scroll handle with a plain thumbpiece and fluted sterling silver sockets, embellished with bright cut engraved scrolling leaf designs.
The teapot, coffee pot and cream jug have octagonal panelled spouts embellished with further bright cut engraved scrolling leaf ornamentation.
The cream jug and sugar bowl have gilt interiors.
The teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl were crafted in 1850 and the coffee pot in 1858, all by the renowned London Silversmith Joseph Angell II; the tea set will have been purchased and the coffee pot later commissioned to match the set.
