This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver hip flask has a plain oval rounded form.

The surface of this large silver hip flask is embellished with panels of exceptionally crisp bright cut engraved scrolling leaf ornamentation incorporating a shaped cartouche to either side.

One side of this antique flask bears the exceptional heraldic markings pertaining as a variation to the family Barwick, in addition to the motto ’In duris serveta fides’ - Keep hard in faith.

The posterior surface is ornamented with the contemporary bright cut engraved presentation inscription W. B. Clarke, Barwickstead, Whitehaven.

The rounded sides of the flask are encompassed with a stylised leaf decorated border on a matte background, all flanked with tooled decoration.

This impressive antique flask is fitted with a plain domed hallmarked screw fit cover encircled with further tooled decoration and an applied rope twist decorated border.

The screw threads to the body of the flask retains the original gilding.

This impressive sterling silver hip flask is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.

This flask has been tested and is water tight and ready for use.

To ensure the flask remains water tight, the cork should be moist and therefore fully expanded to provide an effective seal.

There are two recommended methods to ensure the cork does not dry out and shrink:

Method One: Keep fluid in the flask at all times, and keep the flask on its side to ensure the cork remains wet.

Method Two: Fill the flask to the brim with fluid and close. Leave it like this overnight, or 24 hours if possible, before use.
