The body is embellished with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved illustrations of water-side plant life with butterflies and birds accented with a crescent moon to the sky and a sun to the horizon, all in the Aesthetic style.
The decoration to the body incorporates a bright cut engraved fan shaped vacant cartouche beneath the inscription ‘The last drop makes the cup run over’.
The rim and base of the mug is ornamented with a plain applied moulded border.
This impressive mug is fitted with a panelled angular handle embellished with further fine and impressive bright cut engraved interlacing branch designs accented with birds to both sides and a band of stylised floral ornamentation to the posterior panel.
The underside of this impressive mug bears the retailer’s mark ‘Goldsmiths Alliance Limited, Cornhill London’ amidst a small lozenge and above the silversmith’s centre punch mark.
