This is a fantastic antique William IV mahogany extending dining table and set of eight Vintage dining chairs circa 1830 in date.

The table is made from solid mahogany with the original leaf which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion. The mahogany's beautiful colour, was achieved by many years of sunlight. The grain has wonderful flame markings, typical of the best quality mahogany which was used in the very best quality William IV dining tables.
It stands on beautiful tulip cusp baluster legs which terminate in their original brass cap castors.

The matching set of chairs consists of eight Vintage solid mahogany hand carved William IV style, dining chairs, from the second half of the 20th Century, which have just been restored and reupholstered in beautiful fabric.

It is a fabulous set which would host endless dinner parties.

Provenance: I purchased this set from a beautiful house in Totteridge, London and they bought it in 1992 from a local antique shop, at great expense.

Condition:

In excellent condition having been beautifully restored and the chairs reupholstered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

Flame Mahogany
Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."

The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
