170 - A small burr yew casket shaped tea caddy with boxwood stringing on every edge. This tea caddy has an ivory escutcheon with working lock and key. It stands on small bun feet and has two lids inside which are also made of burr yew (knobs have been replaced). The inside of the lid is papered in Georgian red and the lead lining has been replaced with silver coloured paper. In contrast to caddys made during the reign of Victoria, the proportions of this Georgian box are delicate and the stringing is fine. Yew wood is one of the most sought after of indigenous timbers and when they see a yew wood caddy a collector will invariably pick it up in both hands and exclaim, "I love yew".
