Item Literature
This early Zejwa rug is a magnificent example of the beauty of caucasian weavings. The highly skilled weaver has created a rug with a great balance of design, with the three 'Sunburst' motifs elegantly woven with precision. It shows a skill which is unlikely to be repeated, with the production of modern rugs diminishing year after year these antique examples are showcasing a dying art form unlikely to return.

Item Description / Dealer Expertise
A beautifully executed caucasian Zejwa rug from the kuba region. The colours are fantastic due to being such an early piece, with corrosion to the brown dye, which is a metal thread. This makes the 'sunburst' medallions stand out even more as the rug has a wonderful embossed feel. A real collectors piece in perfect condition having been in a private collection for over 30 years. It is rare to find a rug woven in the last 1/4 of the 19th Century with completely original ends and selvedges.
