Attractive and good quality early 19th Century inlaid mahogany Wheel Barometer. The 'break-arch' pediment over case, ebony banded and with cross-grained edges, inlaid with well-made flower-head paterae and inset with well engraved silvered brass Fahrenheit thermometer and 8-inch diameter main dial, decorated with unusual floral motifs and signed by the maker.

Antony [Della] Torre was the eldest son of immigrant Italian barometer maker, Antonio. Having started work with his father in Pall Mall, he took over the business on his father’s death in 1788, moving premises to Red Lion Square in 1805, the firm prospering until his retirement in 1823.
