An exceptional quality sterling silver box with a hinged top. The shape has the clean features and straight lines typical of the Art Deco period; the interior retains the original gilding. The top is engraved with a stylised monogram “RP” for R. Purbrick the original owner. Excellent quality and workmanship. The box would have originally been part of an extensive set of art deco silver and cut glass gentleman’s accessories in a leather travelling case for which the maker Asprey is particularly known for. Weight 672 grams, 21.6 troy ounces. Height 5 cms. Top measures 17.5 x 11.25 cms. Fully stamped inside the top and on the side of the base with English silver hallmarks for London 1934. This stylish silver top box is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The silver is heavy gauge. Both top and base are stamped with a full and clear set of English silver hallmarks, the engraved initials are deep and crisp, there is some light scratching. The gilt interior is still bright; there is a little staining.
