' Nocturne ' was first performed by the Vic-Wells Ballet at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, London, on November 1936. The work was choreographed by Sir Frederick Ashton who created the lead role of Flower Girl for Margot Fonteyn or " my muse " as he liked to describe her. Although his work was technically and artistically demanding, Fonteyn always said her happiest moments were on stage in Ashton ballets.
