Very fine quality late 18th Century inlaid mahogany Stick Barometer, the form typical of the maker, with pointed top over impressively engraved signed silvered brass register plate, embellished with trailing leaf and flower head decoration; the trunk, herringbone veneered and chequer strung with exposed barometer cistern tube terminating in finely patinated oval cistern cover.

Perhaps the foremost of Scottish Barometer makers, Knie emigrated from Southern Germany to Edinburgh and worked from 1776-1817 at various premises, especially in the
Lawnmarket area.
