Basilius Besler, Apothecary & Botanist, prepared these magnificent engravings on the instructions of Johann Konrad von Gemmingen, Prince Bishop of Eichstaedt.
Besler and his associates, among them Wolfgang Kilian of Augsburg, created one of the most beautiful & famous collections of botanical engravings of all time. Over 1000 flowers, representing 667 species were depicted. It took 16 years to complete this outstanding work
