Beckford's Tower, Bath
A very fine ink and wash drawing of Beckford's Tower by Thomas Barker of Bath. Designed by Henry Edmund Goodridge in 1825 for William Beckford (1760-1844) the building was finally completed in 1827. It was created as a library to contain Beckford's collection of fine paintings and antiquarian books.

Thomas Barker of Bath (1767-1847), painter and lithographer, studied in Rome in 1790. He was strongly influenced by the works of Thomas Gainsborough who lived in Bath during the 1760s and 1770s. Gainsborough's influence is clearly reflected in the image of the shepherd boy with cattle in the present drawing.
