This brilliant example of intimate interior portraiture depicts a young lady's bedroom portrayed with other interiors on her departure for marriage, she (Louise) was the daughter of the house. The delightfully feminine colouring and various objects are grouped together in what is an awkward space, probably designed originally as a dressing room, with several doorways, one concealed behind the glass-fronted cabinet placed on the eighteenth-century commode.

A marble chimney-piece anchors the whole conception and is counterbalanced by a flounced and draped dressing table replete with looking-glass and various pots and potions. To the right is a tall secrétaire en abattant with ormolu mounts, topped by flowers mementos and a statue of the Virgin. In a curtained niche at the end is an Empire lit en bateau with various Catholic devotional objects and other pictures together with a small set of hanging shelves, all complemented by the close-fitted carpet and easy chair to give a pleasantly informal personal atmosphere to a much loved room of a type still seen today.
