Benjamin West, Laudatory Medal, silver, 1866, by W. Wilson, bare head bust of West profile left, WEST / 1738 - 1820. rev. a version of West's The Death of General Wolfe at Quebec. with edge stamped, ART - UNION OF LONDON, 55 mm, (BHM. 2862). Minor surface marks, otherwise extremely fine and very rare in silver.

Benjamin West,( 1738- 1820), historical painter. although born to Quaker parents in Pennsylvania, have studied in Italy he was persuaded to come to London, where he received the patronage of George 111 for over forty years, becoming President of the Royal Academy in 1792.
