The elegant mahogany veneered case has brass stringing and is nicely figured. It retains its original brass bezel with a convex glass.
The plated single fusee movement is of excellent quality and runs for 8 days. The delicately tapering blued steel hands appear to be original.
Bethel Jacobs is listed on page 415 of Brian Loomes’ ‘Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World’. He was active in Whitefriargate, Hull (Yorkshire) from the 1830’s until the 1850’s and is recorded as working “by appointment to the Queen”.
