On the plinth base is a maker's plaque which reads:
BENETFINK & CO, Cheapside, London
Each end of the handle is marked:
Betjemann's Patent 35149 London
The Decanters can be removed by pressing the latch under the lock barrell down which will allow the carrying handle to be pivoted backwards.
Operating the lock and key: You have to push key into the barrel of the lock and whilst keeping the key pushed in to the sprung barrel turn the key anti clockwise will unlock the Tantalus, under the barrel is a latch pushing will allow the handle to pivot either towards or away from you to be able to remove the decanters, if locked you will not be able to do this.
