Mahogany veneered dachluhr case with boxwood edging. The carcass is of a fine light construction in softwood, the backboard is veneered with a single piece of flame mahogany. Dach means roof in German, a reference to the shape of the pediment but generally the dachluhr case has fine simple lines, typically with six lites or panes of glass.
The movement is eight day with deadbeat escapement. The 18cm enamel dial is unrestored with its original surface and fitted with delicate blue steel hands. The dial is held within a brass engine-turned bezel.
Biedermeier was an elegant style of furniture in early 19th century Germany, though it’s appellation is rather pejorative being named after Gottlieb Biedermeier a fictitious bourgeois character.
