Adams and Redstone refer to the birds (Bow Porcelain) p.121 plate 46, showing a fluted dish with the 'partridge' pattern, suggesting this to be the more modern interpretation of the birds depicted.
Bow's thickly potted porcelain (cf. Watney Collection by Phillips and a Blue and White flatware plate) enabled a succession of flatware dishes, plates and bowls to be potted and decorated.
See China for the West p 179 for similar Chinese export dish with a kakiemon design, without the two quail, where this dish was a clear influence to the Bow potters
