This reference book is a comprehensive study of the works on paper by the Paris born artist, Carlos Nadal. One can see that he has been greatly influenced by Dufy, Matisse and Utrillo. In this tome we see many of Nadal's preparation studies for works on canvas. The authors intention within this book is to give the reader an insight into Nadal's thoughts on his preparation and techniques. Nadal, mainly working en plein air before creating his larger works on canvas. The book details Nadal's career spanning some 70 years. Living variously in Paris, Barcelona and Brussels he was never short of new inspiration. He travelled widely, painting in Russia and the Americas as well as throughout the continent. His naive style is easily recognisable, it is here that you can see the influence of Dufy, Matisse and Utrillo. The art critic and writer, Laura Gascoigne, in her article for the Artists and Illustrators magazine, Sept 1996 "Fauve at Heart" she quotes, Nadal's debt to Matisse and Dufy is obvious but his vision is unquestionably his own. Nadal was thought to be the last painter with original fauve connections
