This reference book is a comprehensive study of the works by the Paris born artist, Carlos Nadal. One can see that he has been greatly influenced by Dufy, Matisse and Utrillo. In this first tome on Carlos Nadal by John Duncalfe, 'An English Perspective' he endeavours to present a more comprehensive collection of his oeuvre for the attention of collectors and art dealers. Duncalfe became Nadal's UK representative in 1978 until the artists death in 1998. The artist and agent built a very close bond over the years and spent many hours travelling and working together, which gave Duncalfe a unique insight into the inner most thoughts of this painter. The book details Nadal's career spanning some 70 years. Living variously in Paris, Barcelona and Brussels he was never short of new inspiration. He travelled widely, painting in Russia and the Americas as well as throughout the continent. His naive style is easily recognisable, it is here that you can see the influence of Dufy, Matisse and Utrillo. The art critic and writer, Laura Gascoigne, in her article for the Artists and Illustrators magazine, Sept 1996 "Fauve at Heart" she quotes, Nadal's debt to Matisse and Dufy is obvious but his vision is unquestionably his own. Nadal was thought to be the last painter with original fauve connections.
