A fine example of a French Oak carving from the Breton Region, circa 1500 depicting a Bagpiper. It is a panel from the front of a monumentally sized chest, and has a typically rebated back to sit in the framework formed by the top rail and the muntins. The Bagpiper is depicted as an impressive individual with a feathered hat, thick hair and wearing a fine cloak. His instrument is typical of those illustrated at this period.
