With a steel engraved blade, terminating with the shaped curved neck and head of bird. Mounted on a carved wooden base.

The traditional coconut husker/shaver/grater is a manual tool, used to scrape or to grate the kernel (the white flesh) of a coconut from its shell. In essence, a coconut shaver requires a metal blade, mounted on a strong support which can be anchored, on which the user can use two hands to grate a split coconut until the kernel is shredded away. The shreds are then gathered from the mat for cooking or for making oil.
Reputedly originally from a temple in Kerala.
Private collection, Paris.
