He was the son of the artist William Watson (1809-1871) and brother to William Watson Jnr (1847-1921) and Robert Watson (1855-1921). Like his father and brothers Charles became an animal artist, specialising in paintings of cattle and sheep set within rugged landscapes. Many of his works are of Highland Cattle such as this fine example. He died on 7 Jan 1900 at 38 Wigan Road, Aughton, Lancashire.
The work is housed in a new, English made frame which is in excellent condition.
