An excellent pair of candlesticks made from cavalry sword hilts and standing on feet manufactured as spurs, polypatinated brass with the original shagreen grips. Stamped 'Rd.No.278788' at the top of the 'blade', English circa 1880. A previous pair from our stock were marked with this number and the Orb for Benham & Froud. It is most likely therfore that this pattern of 'recycled' cavalry sword were from the manufactory of Benham & Froud
h:12 inches
Benham & Froud c1855-1924, Chandos St, London, describing themselves variously as general metal workers, art metal workers and lamp manufacturers. The famous 'orb' was adopted because the firm made the present cross on the dome of St Paul's Cathedral in 1821 and it could be seen from their shop in London.  We have 3 pairs at £1450 a pair.
