Fine and rare 8-inch [20cm] diameter brass-cased aneroid barometer in essentially original condition. The well-engraved silvered brass dial, with fine and unusual engine-turned centre and protected by bevelled plate glass. The case profile exaggeratedly dished. The barometer is signed on verso by the makers [Naudet, Pertuis and Hulot Barometres, of Paris].

Chadburn was a leading firm of Northern Instrument makers with manufacturing and retail operations headquartered at 71 Lord St. Liverpool from c1816 through the early 20th Century. The firm of Naudet, Pertuis and Hulot Barometres was pre-eminent in the development of the aneroid barometers from the
third quarter of the 19th Century.
