The high quality substantial 8 day duration single fusee chain driven movement has knopped pillars and an anchor escapement. Everything is crisp and sharp and beautifully constructed, as would be expected of a clock from this maker. The rectangular plate is stamped 'G.R.V.' on the back within a roundel, suggesting that this clock was of government issue. Indeed, it is known that Dutton had a contract of sorts to supply wall clocks to Government offices over this period.
Long pendulum with steel rod.
The 12" diameter silvered brass dial has well-engraved Roman numerals and black spade hands. The dial is signed Dutton & Co., London and with Queen Victoria’s Royal Cypher consisting of a crown and the initials VR.
The drop dial mahogany case has nicely figured veneers to the box, a latched convex cast brass bezel with silvered brass sight ring, and hinged side access door. The base has a lockable access door.
