A portrait miniature of General Henry James Riddell, KH (died 1861) of the 66th Foot. He is wearing a red coat with black facings, silver button holes and fringed epaulettes, white frilled chemise and black stock.

Water colour on ivory in an oval gilt metal frame, signed on the obverse Dillon.

Henry Riddell was the only surviving child of Captain Thomas Riddell (1734-1806) of the East India Company and Elizabeth Maclauchlan (1744-1831). He served in the Peninsular War and was consequently appointed a Knight Commander of Hanover.
