Watercolour on ivory in an oval gold frame with plaited hair to the reverse. The ivory is signed and dated: Painted by Cls Muss/1815.
Charles Muss was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1779, son of Boniface Musso an Italian drawing master. He exhibited at the Royal Academy 1800-1823. He worked for George III, painting a large enamel of the "Holy Family" and later worked for George IV. Examples of Muss's work can be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum an also the National Portrait Gallery.
