The mounts and locks are of paktong, except for the handles of the lower part, which are English, c. 1770, possibly replaced when the cabinet first arrived in England. The brass lock of the bureau is also an English replacement.

Chinese export bureau bookcase of huang hua-li, the broken pediment with dentil inner moulding and central plinth, above a pair of doors with astragal glazing bars, unusually with a bank of four drawers beneath, the interior of the bureau with an arrangement of twelve drawers and a central well beneath a slide, above two small drawers and a dummy drawer and three graduated long drawers with cock-beading, on finely shaped high bracket feet. Circa 1770.
