A fine Chinese gilt lacquer fan, c. 1840. Qing Dynasty. Constructed of nineteen sticks, and two guards. The guards decorated with sinuous dragons, enclosing the sticks, which are finely painted with a continuous scene of figures amongst pavilions, within scroll borders. Each stick with a further panel at the tip, of a single figure before a pavilion.
The reverse similarly decorated. The sticks held together with a gilt pin, and mother of pearl roundels.
Width, open - 34 cm, 13 3/8”.
Height - 20 cm, 7 7/8”.
Condition - Typical, very minor wear to the gilding. Otherwise in perfect condition. No repairs.
