Chinese 17th century Transitional blue and white porcelain ewer. Made at the end of the Ming dynasty during the reign of the last Ming Emperor Chongzhen.
Made at the kilns at Jingdezhen and based on a middle eastern metal shape and the European 'leather jug ' style.
Excellent colour and painting to show a narrative scene. Shows a scholar or dignitary in a garden with pyramid fence foliage and rocks being approached by a young boy bringing a present or tribute. large Banana palms also present in the setting another sign of the scholar
The neck is painted in the Middle Eastern style with tulips.
An excellent ewer with great potting and colour.
Overall very good, minor chip to spout
