A Chinese Silver Jar, circa 1895, probably used for storing ginger. The body is embossed with naive figures of 3 Elders to one side; and the other shows a youth directing an old man to a hermit's hut. The matte background also features branches, rocks and birds. The pull-off cover of the jar is decorated with squirrels and vine, also on a matte background. There is one mark underneath showing the maker to be Yi Tai who was known to be working in the city of Xi'an in Shannxi Province, North West China.
The jar is extremely heavy, weighing 970gms, and is 18cms high.
