We think that rose wood is one of the most beautiful timbers for an antique dining table. It is slow growing, extremely expensive, very hard and durable, and it is virtually impossible to find in large sections.
With that in mind it is easy to appreciate how prohibitively expensive this table would have cost to make originally.
It would be impossible to make today, not only because of the cost, but also because this type of rose wood or the mahogany onto which it is veneered is no longer available.
This table was made during the reign of William IV (1830-37) and bears the stylised tulip motif typical of this period (a variation of the one used by William III 1689-1702 who was from the Netherlands).
This breakfast table can tilt upright and because of the positioning of the legs can be stored in the corner of a room. Alternatively the top can be removed easily so the table can be carried elsewhere for storage when not being used.
