D. Nagle, circa 1705 Sir Andrew Forster wearing powdered wig and armour. On vellum, signed on the reverse, in original turned wood frame, the reverse inscribed Sir/Andrew Forster/ the old and faithful servant / King James Second and Queen Anne/ D. Nagle.

Dimensions: oval, 1 3/8 inches high

Additional Information:

There appears to be no previous record of the miniaturist D. Nagle, whose style is reminiscent of Peter Cross and Bernard Lens. The inscription on the reverse suggests that the sitter was fighting for King James II (during the Glorious Revolution) and was still in the Militia when James’ daughter Anne came to the throne in 1702.
