Dimensions: oval, 1 3/8 inches high
There appears to be no previous record of the miniaturist D. Nagle, whose style is reminiscent of Peter Cross and Bernard Lens. The inscription on the reverse suggests that the sitter was fighting for King James II (during the Glorious Revolution) and was still in the Militia when James’ daughter Anne came to the throne in 1702.
