The present example is by far the most spectacular: it bears the signature of Aubert and Klaftenberger who were prominent retailers of clocks in Geneva, Vienna and London. It would seem likely from the superb case and dial, which must have been very expensive to produce, that this was a special commission which they executed on behalf of a wealthy customer, probably in the mid 19th century.
The dial is one of the most spectacular we have seen. Each of the Roman numerals is blue set off by the white enamelled plaques, these are surrounded by an ornate gilded mask. Outside this is a wide band of carved and raised rosewood. To the centre of the base is a panel with a brass border and further brasswork to the centre. The base containing a door with access to the pendulum curved back to the wall.
