This small flower is a slender Eurasian plant related to the knapweeds, with flowers that are typically a deep, vivid blue, formerly a common weed of cornfields, and the perennial C. montana, grown in gardens. The cornflower is loved by many people and in 1900 it was very modern to put such a modest flower on a vase.
