A Daumenglas Germany 17th century or early 18th Century

This is the Largest Daumenglas or “Thumb glass” to appear on the market in many decades. Surviving examples are typically a little over 20cms tall, this is 26cms

It has a typical barrel shaped body and high kick base. The milled trailing is in excellent condition as is the waffle-like applied foot ring.

The finger or thumb holes are supposed to enable this ceremonial communal drinking glass to be used with greasy fingers.
