David Hicks is never without an opinion. He was notoriously not easy to live with. His wife jokes that he became famous for coke-colored painted walls because she threw so many cokes against their walls in exasperation with him. In this book he lays out his definite ideas on design topics such as: the working method, the designer's palette, organizing space, lighting, surface treatments, soft furnishings, arranging rooms and finishing touches.

"This is a textbook about interior design," Hicks writes in the introduction. You can learn from one of the most successful designers of the 20th century who combined antique with modern stylishly. It is great to read his own words. Any interior designer would benefit from learning from one of the pioneers in the field. Hicks is one of the most influential designers ever, and many designers list him as a huge influence. There are many images in this book of Hicks' work in black and white and color. You will wish they were all in color. Still a delight. Very Scarce, and in excellent condition throughout with dust wrapper.
