David Roberts, Laudatory Medal, silver, 1875, by G. T. Morgan, bare head bust of David Roberts profile left, DAVID ROBERTS R. A. 1796- 1864, rev. a typical scene from one of Robert's paintings, Moorish scribe with seated female, ART UNION OF LONDON 1875, 56 mm. (BHM. 3016). A few surface marks, otherwise good very fine and extremely rare in silver.
David Roberts, (1796- 1864)Painter. Originally an apprentice house painter in Edinburgh, he subsequently became a scene painter for a travelling theatre company, ending up at Drury Lane and Covent Garden.
Later he travelled widely.
It is worth noting tat of the thirty winners of this medal in silver, eight were resident abroad.
