Derby figures of ^*Mars and Venus by William Duesbury

Dimensions:

Mars total height of model 21.00 cm.,Mars figure 14.2 cm.

Venus total height of model 21.00 cm.,Venus figure 14.1 cm.

Per ^George,p 39 plate 2d Mars is identified as by Duesbury and notes the very rare addition of the cockerel, which the figure offered for sale also has.

Per "McNair, the figures in the Ludlow Collection are larger (p 155) though the figures are similar to those offered and the breast plate on each figure of Mars is the same. The Ludlow Mars does not have the cockeral.

Some slight restoration to each sconce, some of Venus' and cherub's fingers missing and a possible restoration to the finger on the left hand of the cherub with Venus. There is a small hairline crack to the yellow cape on the right hand side of Mars. The bocage is in wonderful order, with just one floret to the left above Mars missing and some tiny parts of florets chipped as is usual with pieces of this age.
Victoria & Albert Museum William Duesbury large figure of Mars (414:190-1885),figure of *Mars (28-1874),another figure of Mars (C.2595-1910). Modelling of Mars similar in all respects though there are different colourways to the figure of Mars offered.
