A rare and highly figured early 19th century flame mahogany architects table "a la Tronchin". The adjustable top can be set at several heights and angled to suit, the table has pull-out side leaves and a single long drawer. Retaining its original polished surface and leather tops.
This type of table appeared during the reign of Louis XVI. It derives its name of a Genevan doctor Theodore Tronchin (1709-1781) who published studies on bone problems related to poor position. This design of desk has the benefit that it would be a typical desk, yet with a tilt which would keep the sitters back in good posture and avoid any distortion or pain.
The innovation of this eighteenth table comes from a mechanism concealed in the thickness of the belt and adjustable rods within the legs which are capable of raising the top to the desired height.
