A fine quality and unusual mahogany-cased wall thermometer by this highly sought-after company. The well-engraved silvered brass plate, inscribed with Fahrenheit scale from 220 to -15 degrees, together with seven temperature descriptions, bearing mercury thermometer with spherical reservoir and signed by the makers. The mahogany case, edge moulded, measuring 191/2 inches / 50cm.


Amongst the most renowned of barometer makers, Peter Dollond established his business in the mid-18th Century. He became Instrument Maker and Optician to King George II and the firm expanded and flourished under his successors until its acquisition by Aitchison in 1913.
